The cream rises to the top; seperating the wheat from the chaffe; you have to beat the best to be the best.  Pick whatever cliche you want, playoff games tonight are all about winning and keeping the dream alive.  With a number of monster matchups on the docket, teams are simply looking to survive and advance.  Win ugly; win pretty; it doesn't matter, just win. Due to seeding and bracketing policies, only one game tonight will be played locally, as McPherson come to Wichita to take on Bishop Carroll.

The Thanksgiving timeline for many people goes something like this: 1) Eat a big turkey dinner 2) Go outside 3) Play football with family.  For ten teams across the state, they are doing essentially the same thing, but these football games have a little more riding on the line. It's State Championship Weekend, and by the end of the day on Saturday, five teams will acheive the goal they've been working for since August 15, the start of two-a-days. With the final week of the football season, KWCH 12 and Catch It Kansas are changing up the programming for the Catch It Kansas Show.  Be sure to tune in Friday night for our annual Championship Preview show.  You'll see breakdowns of all five championship games at the regualarly scheduled time of 11:00pm on KSCW 33, cable channel 5. Then on Saturday, tune in at 11:05 on KWCH 12 as we bring you a special Championship Edition of the Catch It Kansas Show.

It's a problem we face every year at this time. So many great games in the playoffs, but which ones do we cover? As the saying goes, it's a good problem to have. If you're looking for a game with a little history, Buhler and Mulvane met in Week 3, with the Wildcats knocking off Buhler, 38-34. For Mulvane, it was the third in a five-game winning streak, before they lost to McPherson. Since that loss, they've put together another five-game streak.  For Buhler, it's all about the run game.

When it comes to rivalries, the most important thing is who wins, because they get the braggin' rights for the next year. The Andover Trojans will be walking a little taller tomorrow after a last-second field goal helped the Trojans knock off cross-town rival Andover Central, 17-14. Across Wichita, the suspense was much less, as #1 Bishop Carroll scored early and often to dominate Wichita Northwest, the only other City League team who was undefeated in league play. The Golden Eagles went on to win 61-14.

It's been a long time since anyone called me a rookie. Now, it seems like every time I talk to a coach they say, "Oh, so you're the rookie. " Last week I became a rookie again in the journalism and broadcasting world. I just began with KWCH and CatchItKansas as a sports reporter and I am so excited to get started. I came from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and now I am in the booming metropolis of Dodge City, Kan. High school sports are more than a game to the people in Texas.

Only six days ago, 10 teams were battling it out on the football field for a chance to raise a state championship trophy.  Tonight, thousands of Kansas high school student-athletes will hit the hardwood, beginning another journey, this one with a similar goal, raising a state basketball championship trophy. Will Wichita Heights high school make it a third straight championship for the boys?  Will the Lady Falcons finally be able to break through and win their own trophy? The Berean Academy boys brought back some championship hardware to Elbing last March, will they be able to do it again?
