SALINA, Kan. — The first championship for the North Central Kansas League has been awarded for the 2012-2013 school year and it went to Marysville High School.
The six NCKL schools met up Saturday at Abilene for the 2012 NCKL girls’ tennis tournament and Marysville got back on the winning girls’ tennis track.
The Lady Bulldogs had won the NCKL crown for 13 years in a row, prior to last year when Abilene snapped the streak and claimed the NCKL crown.
But in 2012 the Lady Bulldogs were back on top as they earned 36 points in a four-way team battle between Marysville, Abilene, which was second, Chapman and Wamego. Chapman and Wamego tied for third and fourth place, just five points behind Marysville’s winning total.
On the gridiron things got confusing as the Clay Center Tigers suffered their first defeat, a 19-7 setback at the hands of the Chapman Fighting Irish. Clay Center’s loss, their only one of the season, puts control of the NCKL back into Wamego’s hands as the Red Raiders beat Abilene to move to 4-0 in NCKL action.
Wamego will play at Clay Center this Friday night.
