WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita North’s Conner Frankamp celebrated yesterday, but not for his upcoming seventeenth birthday and not even in the United States.
In fact, the celebration took place in Lithuania after Frankamp and the USA U17 team dominated Australia in the Gold Medal Game 95-62. Frankamp scored a game-high 22 points with 12 points coming from behind the arc.
As one of the seven returners from the undefeated 2011 USA U16 team, Frankamp is now a two-time gold medalist and has played for two unbeaten teams.
At age 16, Frankamp earned his first gold medal with 43 points in 64 minutes of play. He ranked eighth overall in assists and attempted only 15 three-point shots.
Frankamp seemed to settle in and become more comfortable in the national spotlight as he was the team leading scorer this season.
He drained 113 points in 177 minutes and ranked eleventh overall in scoring. He doubled his three point attempts with 31, hitting almost half of them for an average of .452. He averaged 12.8 points a game in 2011 and rose to 22.1 points per game in order to defend the FIBA U17 World Champtionship for Team USA.
